J. L. Perry, 71, of Hixson, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, October 21, 2018. Jerry was born in Pleasant Hill, Tn., to the late Jimmy and Ruth Perry. He served our country in the Air Force and retired from the Air National Guard with over 33 years of service. Jerry retired from Erlanger Hospital as an electrician, with over 25 years of employment. Proud submarine veteran, James 'Al' Smith died on October 11, 2018, in Hixson. He served on the USS Carbonero and USS Cochino. The Carbonero completed two patrols in World War II. Al became a Baptist minister after injury ended his career in paper mills. He also umpired youth leagues around Chattanooga. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna who passed in 1996.
